About the role:

The Software Engineering Manager leads a team of software engineers, managing projects from start to finish. They ensure that software is developed on time, meets requirements, and is scalable. They also help define product strategy and contribute to the development of their team. As a technical manager, you set the boundaries and expectations for delivering a quality product and timely solutions; you are an avid promoter of process improvement; you seek out and promote best practices; you own and refine the technical architecture, continually investing in refactoring and refinement to incorporate modern engineering tools and practices.   As a people manager, you consistently invest in your people to grow their technical skills and soft skills; you celebrate successes; you identify books, classes, events, and assignments that expose team members to new ways of thinking and working; you promote inter-team and intra-team collaboration to build trust; you hire good people, effectively manage poor performers, and provide constant feedback to create a team of leaders. As a servant leader, the Software Engineering Manager's role is to inspire, motivate, and enable the team by removing impediments.  The manager is encouraged to stay out of the day to day activities and focus on the big picture; where the product is headed and what are the architecture decisions, tools, and skills needed to get there.

• Hands on experience working in C#, .NET and Azure cloud
• Lead the team to build the next generation of modern applications, platforms and services by providing technical expertise throughout the software development lifecycle
• Communicate a plan for the budget, resources, and tools required to support the business and evolve the product, then execute the plan
• Establish relevant learning plans that grow the team professionally and technically
• Motivate the team to share ideas and learnings to promote innovation and generate excitement within the team
• Take an active role in defining metrics that measure our ability to deliver on business and service level objectives; use the metrics to improve the process and product
• As a servant leader, work closely with the team to anticipate and remove impediments
• Review test plans and results providing guidance with the development of test plans to assist the business with development of user acceptance criteria
• Develop relationships with our Business Operations partners and regularly update them with what is transpiring related to automation

• Being a hands-on manager still coding around 30-40% of the time
• Experience in software development consisting of architecture and implementing through code
• Advanced knowledge of business processes for supported business groups
• Advanced knowledge of information technology systems, infrastructure, and operations
• Advanced working knowledge of information systems and operations systems for supported business groups
• Knowledgeable of best practices in information technology governance and regulatory landscape for financial institutions
• Significant experience in a large and complex business environment
• Superior organizational skills in planning and prioritizing own workload and initiatives
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical terminology to people with limited or no technical understanding
• Proactive and solutions driven with a high level of attention to detail

  • Pipeline Automation: Azure DevOps (YAML, ARM), Terraform, Jenkins, Chef, Octopus Deploy
  • Code Scanning: SonarQube, Checkmarx
  • Source Code repos: Git
  • Mobile: Xamarin.iOS, Xamarin.Android, Xamarin.Forms
  • UI: Angular, Javascript, CSS, Node.js, ASP.NET MVC
  • High level programming languages: Java, C# (.NET MVC and .NET Core), Go
  • Scripting: PowerShell, Bash
  • Database: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, NoSQL (e.g. CosmosDB)
  • Test Automation: Xamarin.UITest, Specflow, DevTest, Selenium, Test Data Manager, Postman, Maven, TestNG, JMeter
  • Operating systems: Windows, Linux

Experience and Education

• 8-10 years of experience in software development required
• Experience leading software development projects preferred
• Experience leading people preferred
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field; and/or commensurate experience preferred
