Senior Project Buyer – Power Delivery

SUMMARY  

Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Project Buyer to support the Power Delivery Operating Group. This role focuses on building supplier relationships, managing procurement activities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment for the construction of substations, wind collection systems, and transmission lines. 

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the vision, direction, and day to day operations of the Supply Chain organization. You will work closely with operations teams and suppliers to plan, coordinate, and execute Supply Chain activities. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of materials to meet project timelines and requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supply Chain Operations and Strategy

• Partner with internal stakeholders including project teams, estimating, and design phase leads to align supply chain strategies with project goals and timelines.

• Responsible for managing and implementing short and long-term sourcing strategies to achieve business objectives for the Supply Chain function and contribute to Company-wide strategy.

• Define sourcing initiatives in alignment with strategic plans and supply chain strategies.

• Support negotiations and maintain contracts and agreements with key suppliers and service providers, ensuring quality, reliability, and competitiveness.

• Build on established supplier relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and productivity, while leveraging the combined buying power of Mortenson’s operations

• Collaborate across all business functions to formulate, implement, and execute sourcing and continuous improvement strategies.

• Monitor and analyze industry trends and lead the implementation of best practices for supply chain 

• When selling materials, participate in contract negotiations with assigned customers. Ensure contract compliance

• Collaborate with category team on project proposal strategy

• Coordinate material planning to ensure timely delivery aligned with project schedules, including long-lead items and critical path materials.

People Leadership

• Lead the work of the buyer team, while establishing strategies for sourcing and supply chain with process excellence focus.

• Foster teamwork, collaboration, and integration within Supply Chain and across Mortenson to provide cohesive solutions and ensure effective delivery of strategy.

• Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance.

• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.

• Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

• Champion superior customer service by ensuring a customer focused approach and strong service orientation.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience

• Minimum 7 years of experience

• Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience driving process improvements and leading change initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.

• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures

• Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills

• Proven people leader with experience in hiring, coaching, and mentoring a team of professionals to anticipate needs and achieve short and long-term goals.

• Ability to lead initiatives and influence decisions in a matrix organization.

• Superior attention to detail and accuracy

• Shown positive and professional attitude and strong customer service skills

• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

• Current driver’s license

The base pay range for this role is $85,300- $128,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
