DirectorJob Description & Summary
Shaping how a workforce evolves — anticipating what's next, redesigning how work gets done, and translating strategy into action — requires a rare combination of commercial thinking, design capability, and the confidence to lead through ambiguity. As a Workforce Strategy Lead within PwC's Future Workforce Centre of Excellence, you'll bring your experience in workforce strategy, operating model design, and organisational transformation to lead and evolve the firm's approach to workforce planning and future-state design, based in Sydney / Gadigal. You'll partner with senior leaders across Lines of Service and enabling functions to connect business strategy, AI disruption, and workforce intelligence into practical choices that shape how PwC builds, deploys, and develops its people.
Why PwC?
At PwC Australia, your skills meet purpose. We tackle big challenges across industries like finance, technology, energy, and health—giving you the chance to make a real impact. Here, your growth is our priority. You’ll work with leading teams, explore new technologies, and unlock your full potential.
Join a global community of more than 370,000 people who value bold ideas, collaboration, and lasting change. Together, we’re building trust and shaping the future.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and manage the Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) team to execute in partnership with Line of Service leaders and leadership teams to translate business strategy, client demand and disruption into clear workforce priorities, choices and actions.
- Translate workforce plans into transformation, identifying where shifts in work, roles, skills, capacity or workforce composition require targeted intervention, redesign and reshaping.
- Lead the workforce design component of priority firmwide transformation initiatives, working hands-on with business and functional leaders to assess workforce impacts and design future-state workforce and operating model and organisational design solutions.
- Apply work and task analysis to workforce transformation, identifying how work is changing through AI, technology and new delivery models and translating this into implications for roles, skills, structures, capacity and ways of working.
- Design future workforce and operating models, including role and team design, organisational structures, workforce composition, spans and layers, sourcing and location choices, and transition requirements where relevant.
- Develop practical transformation roadmaps and interventions that move teams from current to future-state workforce models, working with accountable business owners and enabling functions to support implementation.
- Partner across the Future Workforce CoE, particularly Skills, Workforce Intelligence and One Firm Workforce, ensuring workforce planning and transformation decisions are informed by skills, data and broader talent considerations.
- Support the Skills-enabled transformation through the change and activation design, future operating model shifts needed, and skills frameworks articulated for buy/build strategies.
- Act as the 2iC to the Head of Future Workforce, supporting prioritisation and delivery of the broader CoE agenda, representing the CoE with senior stakeholders where required, and providing leadership across the team.
- Continuously evolve the firm's workforce strategy and transformation capability, codifying methodologies, tools, playbooks and lessons from engagements to create a scalable approach that can be deployed across PwC.
What we’re looking for:
Core Skills
- Demonstrated experience in workforce strategy, strategic workforce planning, workforce transformation, operating model design, organisation design or a related discipline.
- Experience leading complex workforce or organisational transformation initiatives, from diagnosis and strategy through to future-state design and implementation planning.
- Strong experience partnering with senior leaders and leadership teams, with the ability to translate business strategy and challenges into practical workforce choices and actions.
- Experience leading and developing teams, including managing competing priorities and deploying capability across multiple engagements or initiatives.
- Experience applying workforce data, insights and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Desirable Skills
- Understanding of how AI, technology and changing delivery models are reshaping work, roles, skills and workforce models.
- Experience within a complex, matrixed or professional services environment.
