Graduate Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Clermont Veterinary Surgery | Clermont, Queensland

If you went to vet school because you wanted to experience true mixed animal practice, this could be exactly what you have been looking for.

At Clermont Veterinary Surgery, no two days look quite the same. You might start your morning with companion animal consults, head out to cattle work in the afternoon and find yourself involved in an equine case before the day is finished.

This is genuine rural mixed practice, with opportunities across companion animal medicine and surgery, cattle reproduction, herd health and bull work, alongside equine ambulatory medicine, reproduction, dentistry, lameness and diagnostics.

For a new graduate who wants variety, practical experience and experienced vets around them while they learn, Clermont is a pretty special place to start a veterinary career.

Why Clermont?

One of the biggest advantages of starting your career at Clermont is the experience around you.

The clinic has a long history of mentoring young veterinarians and offers exposure to experienced clinicians across mixed, cattle and equine practice. Dr Caroline Spelta, the clinic's Clinical Lead, is a registered specialist in Equine Medicine and Senior Equine Veterinarian.

Rather than expecting you to know everything on day one, we want to help you build confidence, capability and independence as your experience grows.

A graduate position where you get to be a mixed vet

This role gives you the opportunity to build broad clinical foundations rather than narrowing your career too early.

Depending on the cases coming through the door and where your interests develop, your experience can include:

Clermont has previously supported junior veterinarians to pursue PregCHECK, BullCHECK and Australian Cattle Veterinarians accreditation.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what type of vet you want to become. That's part of what your graduate year is for.

What you'll receive

Your working week

The Clermont team works an eight day fortnight, averaging 76 hours per fortnight. The current after hours roster is shared 1 in 4 and supported by Apiam's telehealth triage team, which answers and filters calls before they reach the veterinarian.

When on call, vets receive the applicable award allowance plus 50% of the professional fees charged for each call out.

That means you can experience an important part of rural veterinary medicine while still having experienced clinical support around you.

Life in Clermont

Clermont sits in the heart of Central Queensland cattle country.

If you're looking for somewhere you can become part of a friendly rural community, know your clients and see the impact of the work you do, rural practice offers something that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

And importantly, you won't be starting your career alone.

About you

We're looking for a graduate veterinarian who is excited by the idea of mixed practice and keen to learn.

You don't need to arrive as a confident cattle vet, equine vet and small animal surgeon all at once.

We are much more interested in someone who:

If you're enthusiastic, practical and prepared to get involved, we'll help you build the rest.

Ready to start your veterinary career?

If you've spent five years at vet school learning about different species, why limit yourself to just one?

Come to Clermont and put it all into practice.

Join a team with deep mixed practice experience, a strong history of developing young vets and the opportunity to build a veterinary career that is genuinely your own.

We'd love to hear from you. Apply with your cover letter and resume via the portal or contact Corinne at corinne.warnick@apiam.com.au or 0458 387 478 to discuss the role.
