Wood is recruiting for a E&I Designer (2D AutoCAD) – Chemical Manufacturing to join its Oil & Gas business focusing on the Operations Americas unit. This opportunity is onsite in Narrows, VA, United States.

The Role

The E&I Designer supports capital and maintenance projects by producing high quality 2D AutoCAD drawings, technical documentation, and field ready design packages. This role works closely with Project Managers, Construction Coordinators, and discipline engineering teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed E&I design drawings and documentation using 2D AutoCAD.
• Ensure designs meet plant standards, national codes, and best engineering practices.
• Prepare drawing packages, BOMs, tie‑in lists, and project documentation.
• Support project estimating, scope development, and design reviews.
• Provide field support during construction, troubleshooting, and startup.
• Participate in safety planning and complete Project Safety Plans for assigned work.
• Maintain accurate electronic files in ProjectWise and support MOC documentation.
• Assist with construction scope packages and collaborate with Construction Coordinators.
• Respond to plant emergencies as needed.

Expected

• Experience in electrical and/or instrumentation design or drafting.
• Proficiency with 2D AutoCAD in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards and safe work practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and support multiple projects.
• Comfortable providing field support and adapting to changing priorities.

Preferred 

• Experience in chemical or heavy industrial facilities.
• Familiarity with ProjectWise, SAP, and plant documentation systems.
