We’re looking for our next Team Lead, Software Engineering. Could It Be You?
We are hiring a hands-on Team Lead to lead the engineers of one squad at Questbank — our digital banking arm delivering personal bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, and lending solutions. In this role, you will coordinate the development, improvement, and delivery of full-stack banking solutions, owning specific feature areas within the squad's portfolio while maintaining strong SDLC health. You will balance your time between hands-on engineering (coding, code reviews, and technical execution) and people leadership (growing team members, conducting performance reviews, and partnering with People & Culture).

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-
Technical delivery: Bringing deep, senior-level full-stack expertise; staying involved in code reviews, architectural design, development/QA, and troubleshooting and production support alongside the team.
-
Mentorship & tech: Providing direct technical mentorship, evaluating candidate quality during technical assessments, staying current on industry trends, and evaluating new technologies that benefit the team.
-
Ownership & collaboration: Making sensible day-to-day technical decisions within agreed standards; owning specific banking product features or system components; keeping squad development processes running smoothly.
-
Vision & communication: Operating with clear purpose; identifying and collaborate with stakeholders; explaining complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences; writing clear documentation.
-
People & culture: Building an engaged, inclusive team; giving timely, constructive feedback; owning performance reviews, hiring, and career development in partnership with P&C.
-
AI-assisted workflow: Using AI coding assistants/agents fluently and coach the team to do so safely; treating review of AI-generated code as a larger effort than writing it, keeping humans accountable for what ships.
-
Standards & guardrails: Setting and enforcing code-review standards for AI-generated code as a control layer; ensuring it meets the same security/quality bar, aligned with secure-dev practices and Questrade IT/cyber policies.
-
Capability building: Prioritizing AI fluency, systems thinking, and output-evaluation judgment when developing and hiring engineers; adapting practices as tooling evolves.
-
Governance: Ensuring your team's adherence to policies and standards, suggesting squad-level process improvements, and collaborating with governance teams within your domain.
So are YOU our next Team Lead, Software Engineering? You are if you…
-
Have senior-level, hands-on full-stack experience with deep expertise in at least one core stack, plus a track record of mentorship, code review, and design contribution.
-
Have experience leading or coordinating delivery within a squad, assessing candidate technical fit, and maintaining a balanced focus between hands-on technical work and team management.
-
Are fluent with AI-assisted development and the judgment to review, evaluate, and govern AI-generated code.
-
Have a people-first mindset and comfort partnering with P&C on performance, hiring, and development, and with IT/cyber governance on policy adherence.
Additional kudos if you…
-
Have prior formal people-leadership experience and background in regulated financial services or a compliance-sensitive domain.
Compensation Information:
-
Base salary range: $140,000 - $160,000
-
The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
