Spring 2027 - Validation Engineering Intern

An internship at onsemi offers a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience through real-world projects that drive innovation in the semiconductor industry. Interns are entrusted with meaningful responsibilities and exposed to cutting-edge technologies, fostering both technical skill development and professional growth.

onsemi views internships as a strategic pipeline for entry-level career positions, providing a collaborative and inclusive environment where interns work alongside diverse teams and contribute to high-impact initiatives. The company’s commitment to sustainability, including its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, enables interns to engage in projects that align with global environmental priorities.

Key benefits include:

• Competitive compensation and medical benefits
• Flexible work hours aligned with academic schedules
• Access to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) which foster a sense of belonging and provide opportunities for mentorship and community engagement
• Networking events, professional development workshops, and project showcases that build career readiness and visibility across the organization

Internship roles span multiple disciplines including engineering, business operations, data analytics, and finance, and are designed to align with onsemi’s strategic goals of innovation and workforce development. Structured programs such as rotational field sales and finance analyst tracks offer additional career pathways for interns transitioning into full-time roles.

This opportunity will ask a student to have the following performance objectives:

• Support validation planning, silicon bring-up, debug, and characterization of new and derivative image sensor products, including test chips targeted at circuit and process learning, reliability readiness, and manufacturability.
• Validate new circuit IP and sensor functions such as memories, OTPM, pumps, regulators, serial communication interfaces, safety mechanisms, and new DFT test modes.
• Develop and improve validation test methodologies, automation, and data analysis flows to detect issues early, reduce debug cycle time, and support robust product release decisions.
• Enhance the performance and usability of existing validation tools by improving scripts, automation, documentation, and reporting workflows.
• Support failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and cross-functional debug activities as key components of the validation engineering role.

In order to be considered for an internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in school pursuing an accredited degree program. This position is specifically looking for someone who is  enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctoral program in Electrical Engineering or related field with emphasis on chip level circuit design.

• Pursue Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field with coursework on analog and digital circuit design.
• Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics.
• Proficient in scripting languages (e.g. Python, VB, Perl, C, bash).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong team player and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
• Experience with Electrical lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, power supplies, power meters, signal generators).
• Familiarity with CMOS Circuit design and test methodology preferred.
• Understanding of imager sensor architecture and product reliability requirements preferred.
