About Us

At Downtown Animal Hospital, our team culture is exceptional. We pride ourselves on creating a positive work environment built on teamwork, excellent patient care, and outstanding client service.

Our team includes 8 veterinarians, 10 RVTs, and 5 veterinary assistants across full-time, part-time, casual, and hybrid schedules. We also welcome volunteers who contribute to our hospital community.

We provide urgent and emergency veterinary care supported by modern equipment and in-house diagnostics, including digital radiography, ultrasound, and veterinary analyzers. We also have access to point-of-care ultrasound and, on occasion, veterinarians who can provide care for pocket pets.

Our caseload offers plenty of variety, including toxin exposures, acute gastrointestinal and urinary cases, acute lameness, seizures, porcupine quills, chronic kidney disease, diabetic crises, and emergency surgeries such as pyometras, GDVs, and foreign body removals.

We focus on urgent and emergency care rather than specialty services, giving our team the opportunity to support patients through a wide range of challenging and rewarding cases.

About the Role

This is a full-time overnight position with a 3-days-on, 4-days-off schedule, offering a great balance between meaningful clinical work and time away from the hospital.

As an RVT at Downtown Animal Hospital, you’ll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians, providing high-quality nursing care, and helping patients receive the attention they need during urgent and emergency situations.

What You’ll Do

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients presenting with urgent and emergency medical concerns.

• Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and emergency procedures.

• Monitor hospitalized patients, assess their condition, and communicate changes to the veterinary team.

• Perform RVT duties to the fullest extent of your training and professional scope.

• Support emergency surgeries and provide appropriate perioperative and recovery care.

• Operate and assist with diagnostic equipment, including digital radiography, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory analyzers.

• Communicate with clients with empathy and professionalism during stressful situations.

• Maintain accurate medical records and ensure a clean, safe, and organized hospital environment.

• Collaborate with veterinarians, fellow RVTs, veterinary assistants, and the wider team to deliver excellent patient care.

What We’re Looking For

• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in good standing with the appropriate provincial regulatory body.

• A strong interest in urgent and emergency veterinary medicine.

• Excellent technical, patient-care, and communication skills.

Compensation & Perks

• Hourly wage of $28–$35, based on experience and qualifications.
