Job Opportunity
BHSI is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Technology Strategic Partnerships to lead technology vendor strategy and optimization across our global Technology organization. As a member of our Boston-based Technology Strategy & Planning team, this senior individual-contributor role will build an integrated view of vendor spend, performance, and dependencies; develop and drive a prioritized sourcing and optimization roadmap; and help Technology leaders realize measurable value from strategic supplier relationships. The scope spans more than 125 vendor relationships and approximately $90 million in annual technology vendor expenditure.
This role will own the cross-Technology vendor strategy and will drive actions to improve vendor performance, spending, and use of external resources, tracking each action through implementation and measurable results. The focus is ongoing vendor value and operational improvements. Technology portfolio leaders retain accountability for vendor delivery, performance, and outcomes within their portfolios, and our Enterprise Vendor Management team provides the enterprise framework, governance, and contracting and negotiation support. The AVP connects these groups and leads opportunities that span portfolios, tailoring involvement to vendor criticality, spend, risk, and opportunity specific to our Technology portfolio.
The ideal candidate is an analytical, self-motivated technology vendor strategist with strong financial judgment and a positive, collaborative approach. They build trusted relationships, challenge assumptions constructively, and take ownership of delivering measurable results across organizational boundaries.
Why this role matters:
BHSI relies on external technology partners to extend capabilities, accelerate delivery, and support global operations. This role brings together information across Technology to identify overlapping services, unused capacity, unnecessary demand, and emerging dependencies, then turn those insights into action. The AVP will help sustain savings, strengthen supplier performance, and preserve service quality, knowledge, and flexibility as business needs change.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and continuously evolve BHSI’s technology vendor strategy, governance framework, standards, and operating model so vendor decisions are consistent, transparent, and aligned to business and technology objectives.
- Build a cross-Technology view of vendor spend, commitments, performance, and dependencies to identify opportunities and trade-offs that individual portfolios cannot address alone.
- Analyze vendor spending, utilization, and capacity to identify unused services, eliminate waste, and sustain savings as demand changes.
- Drive vendor consolidation and rationalization to reduce overlapping services, simplify the portfolio, improve transparency and cost efficiency, and strengthen strategic partnerships.
- Drive workforce and sourcing improvements, balancing internal capabilities, staff augmentation, professional services, managed services, strategic partnerships, and automation.
- Strengthen supplier relationships through shared priorities, scorecards, and business reviews covering cost, quality, delivery, risk, and supplier commitments.
- Define Technology needs, combine demand, and support market assessments, RFI/RFPs, proposal evaluations, cost and value assessments, and supplier selection and renewal recommendations.
- Partner with Architecture and Emerging Technology to evaluate AI vendors and sourcing options and inform buy, build, partner, or retire decisions.
- Partner with Technology and Finance to guide annual vendor budgets and forecasts, resolve spending variances, and align investment with workforce plans.
- Identify vendor dependency, concentration, continuity, knowledge-transfer, and exit risks, and coordinate mitigation plans as necessary.
- Lead vendor, sourcing, workforce-transition, and operating-model initiatives supporting Technology Strategy & Planning priorities. Set clear owners and milestones, resolve obstacles, and drive implementation and measurable results.
- Provide clear leadership recommendations and track Finance-validated savings, cost avoidance, service improvements, and delivery commitments.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- 12+ years in technology vendor management, strategy and operations, sourcing strategy, technology finance, or a related field, with measurable improvements in vendor value across a complex enterprise.
- Strong understanding of software, SaaS, cloud, licensing and consumption models, staff augmentation, professional services, and managed services.
- Proven success developing and executing vendor strategies that deliver sustained savings, stronger supplier performance, and service improvements.
- Strong financial and analytical skills in vendor spending, utilization, reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, business cases, and savings validation.
- Experience strengthening strategic technical vendor relationships through scorecards, SLAs, business reviews, and corrective actions; working knowledge of third-party risk, resilience, knowledge transfer, and exit planning.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated, data-sensitive industry preferred.
- Experience with global and offshore technology delivery, including distributed vendors and internal-versus-external workforce planning.
- Strong executive communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence without authority, challenge constructively, and align stakeholders across portfolios.
- Curiosity and learning agility, with the ability to stay current as technology services, AI vendor models, outsourcing trends, and third-party risks evolve.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, bring structure to ambiguity, resolve obstacles, and balance strategic judgement with hands-on execution and follow-through.
- Proven ability to lead with self-awareness and emotional intelligence, adapting style based on context and feedback while maintaining accountability.
BHSI Offers:
- A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates.
- A dynamic, action-oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates, and our other stakeholders.
- A purposely non-bureaucratic organization that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence in a team framework.

- Comprehensive Health, Dental and Vision benefits
- Disability Insurance (both short-term and long-term)
- Life Insurance (for you and your family)
