Job Description Summary
As a Senior Wind Acoustics Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that GE Vernova’s wind turbines meet noise compliance standards and performance expectations. You will serve as key focal point for machinery noise related topics, bridging the gap between component design, supplier management and fleet performance. You will be responsible for defining noise targets, validating performance through measurement and leading mitigation efforts for both new product development and existing fleet issues.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the definition, calculation and prediction of noise levels for key mechanical and electrical components, specifically gearbox, generator, transformer and fans.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for component owners and external suppliers to ensure that noise requirements are understood, accepted and properly validated.
- Partner with the Acoustics Principal Engineer to establish and drive a technology roadmap aimed at leveraging innovative design changes to proactively reduce machinery noise in new GE Vernova wind platforms.
- Design and execute acoustic measurement campaigns in accordance with relevant standards (such as IEC 61400-11) to validate component and turbine noise levels.
- Develop, design and validate machinery noise mitigation solutions, including the application of acoustic foam and Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs).
- Provide technical expertise for fleet issue resolution, including root cause analysis of acoustic anomalies and the implementation of site-specific noise reduction retrofits.
- Serve as the team’s primary technical reference for acoustic measurement methodologies and fleet mitigation strategies. Act as a dedicated coach and mentor, fostering the technical growth of team members through hands-on training and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain design standards, calculation models and technical reports to support internal quality and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Significant experience in wind turbine acoustics or industrial machinery noise control (HVAC, rotating machinery, or heavy powertrain).
- Proficiency in acoustic measurement techniques, data acquisition and signal processing (e.g. FFT analysis, sound power level determination).
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with design engineers, suppliers and site operations teams.
- Demonstrated success in managing technical mitigation projects, from design to field installation and validation.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Desired Characteristics
- Master's or PHD degree in Mechanical, Acoustics, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with GE Vernova wind turbine platforms or similar utility-scale wind technology.
- Knowledge of international wind turbine noise standards and environmental noise regulations.
- Experience using programming tools such as MATLAB or Python for automated data analysis and acoustic reporting.
- Solid oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
