About the role: 

We are looking for a Head of People & Culture / Senior People & Culture Manager. This will depend on experience and performance throughout the process. This person will join the Operations team, taking ownership of building world-class HR and people operations at Colossyan, with specific focus on the team in Hungary.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast paced startup environment and loves rolling up their sleeves to get things done. You'll have autonomy from day one and will influence and shape our people strategy from the ground up, with ownership and empowerment to drive meaningful change.

Key Ownership Areas

• HR Operations: Build, run and scale HR processes, policies, and systems that support our rapid growth, utilising what is in place today and improving as required

• Recruitment: Lead Budapest talent acquisition from further building out the talent pool, to conducting interviews, from making offers through to orientation of a new joiners first day. You will ensure we continue attracting exceptional people (with both a local and global focus)

• Office Management: Oversee our Budapest office operations and employee experience initiatives, ensuring we create a slick, well managed and fun place to work. Our culture is important to us and ensuring the environment is optimised to support this is important

• People Compliance: Ensure we meet all legal and regulatory requirements across our international team, with a focus on the Hungarian team / entity

• Culture building: Organise initiatives, coordinate socials, run events, and, generally be there as a single point of contact for our People at all times.

• Strategic Ownership: Own the people strategy end to end, and act as the go to voice on people matters at leadership level

Responsibilities

• Design and implement people strategies that align with our business objectives and cultural values

• Lead recruitment efforts to attract, assess, and hire top talent across all functions

• Shape our performance management, compensation, and employee development programs

• Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction

• Build scalable HR processes and systems to support our growth from 50+ to 100+ employees

• Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions

• Partner with leadership on organisational design, culture development, and change management

• Take proactive ownership of people initiatives – we want someone who sees opportunities and acts on them

• Be critical and honest about our people practices, pushing for continuous improvement

• Own the people & culture budget, support with headcount planning and compensation philosphy. Bring recommendations directly to leadership and implement

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of local Hungarian labour law

• T-shaped HR professional with recruitment expertise and broad people operations knowledge

• Leadership experience with the ability to influence and drive change at a senior level

• Comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on level

• Comfortable building out the team in Hungary, with support from the Senior P&C Manager in the UK

• Passion for early-stage startups – you love the energy, pace, and hands-on nature of startup life, no task is too small and no workstream is too big

• Track record of proactive initiatives you've owned and successfully implemented

• Experience building HR functions from the ground up or scaling them rapidly

• Strong understanding of employment law and compliance requirements

• Fluent in written and spoken English and Hungarian

• Comes to the office all week (Central Budapest location)

• Genuine love for the field of HR and helping people thrive in their careers

• Native Hungarian language is a requirement to succeed in this role
