Delivered Meals Volunteer - TAS

Availability: Mornings/Afternoons
Time involved: 1-3 hours per week 

• Ongoing long-term position

• Volunteers use their own vehicles to deliver food in the community 
• Valid Australian driver's license required
• Must be able to commit to at least one shift per week on a regular basis

• Queenstown - Monday - Friday 10:30am – 12:30pm
• Campbell Town - Monday - Friday 11:30am – 1:00pm
• George Town - Monday - Friday 12:00pm – 1:30pm
• Bridport - Mondays & Wednesdays 10:30am – 11:30am
• Evandale - Tuesdays & Thursdays 10:00am – 12:00pm
• Scottsdale - Monday - Friday 12:00pm – 1:30pm

The program 

Good food, nutrition, and human connection delivered straight to recipients’ doors—that is the essence of our Red Cross Delivered Meals program. Designed to support older and vulnerable people who find it difficult to cook due to age, disability, or temporary health challenges, this service offers meals tailored to dietary needs and preferences. Each weekday, volunteers’ hand-deliver fresh and/or frozen meal packs along with a friendly check-in. These weekly visits not only ensure reliable access to healthy and nutritious food but also foster genuine, two-way social interactions.

The opportunity 

We are looking for warm, reliable volunteers who can relate to and empathise with a diverse range of older people, including those from different cultural backgrounds and life experiences.

Key Requirements and Your Commitment:

• Be willing to join a nationwide team delivering social inclusion program within Aged and Community Care.    
• Access to your own vehicle (partial fuel reimbursements provided) to deliver meals.
• Strong conversational skills and a respectful, inclusive approach.    
• Ability to lift and place food eskies (approx. 10-12 Kgs) in the boot of a vehicle.
• Respect the privacy, rights, and dignity of clients and maintain confidentiality with respect to information obtained during the delivery of service.     
• Utilise appropriate digital systems and adhere to established work practices relevant to the program. 
• Record timely and appropriate documentation of your interactions with clients.   
• Maintain clear professional relationships and respect clear boundaries to safeguard the well-being of the client and yourself.   
• Participate in mandatory learning and development to keep your knowledge, skills, and practices up-to-date in the aged and community care sector.   
• Commit to upholding the principles outlined in the Aged Care Code of Conduct and any subsequent updates.    
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity by respecting diverse backgrounds and ensuring that all interactions are inclusive and free from discrimination

As a Red Cross Delivered Meals volunteer, you will deliver more than just nutritious food—you will brighten someone’s day. Your regular visits will help reduce loneliness and isolation, support clients in living independently, and enrich their quality of life. In return, you will gain firsthand insight into Australia’s diverse communities and the satisfaction of making a real difference.

You’ll be part of the Red Cross Aged & Community Care team that works to support older and vulnerable people across Australia through a range of volunteer-based programs.    

Application requirements: 

• All volunteers will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.  
• A current full Australian driver’s licence and an excellent driving record. 
• Statutory Declaration to be completed if you have been a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than Australia after turning 16 years of age.
