Job Summary:

HOOPP is seeking an accomplished institutional investment leader to help shape portfolio construction, investment strategy and risk-informed decision-making across one of Canada's leading pension funds.

Reporting to the Vice President, Total Portfolio Risk & Analytics, this role operates at the intersection of investment strategy, portfolio construction, total fund analytics and risk insight. The successful candidate will partner closely with senior investment leaders to evaluate strategic opportunities, assess portfolio resilience and provide forward-looking insights that support decisions across public and private markets.

As a senior leader within the Risk Division, the Senior Director will influence how investment risks and opportunities are understood at the total portfolio level. The role will help advance HOOPP's Total Portfolio Approach through innovative analytics, rigorous research, constructive challenge and strategic thought leadership.

This is an opportunity to contribute to investment decisions spanning equities, fixed income, derivatives, real estate, infrastructure, private equity and private credit, while helping shape the continued evolution of total portfolio strategy, analytics and risk management at HOOPP.

What you will do:

Strategic Portfolio Leadership

• Partner with Investment Management and the Total Portfolio Group to provide insights that support portfolio construction, strategic asset allocation and investment decision-making across HOOPP’s total fund.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on portfolio design, investment strategy, risk-return trade-offs and portfolio resilience.
• Assess the interaction of public and private market exposures, providing an integrated view of portfolio opportunities, concentrations and vulnerabilities.
• Provide constructive challenge and independent assessment of strategic allocations, portfolio construction choices and material investment transactions.

Total Portfolio Analytics & Risk Insight

• Lead enterprise-wide oversight of total portfolio risk across public and private markets, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, real estate, infrastructure, private equity and private credit.
• Monitor macroeconomic conditions, market developments and structural investment themes to assess their potential impact on total portfolio outcomes.
• Lead benchmark governance across asset classes, ensuring benchmarks appropriately reflect mandate objectives, risk exposures and return drivers.
• Oversee stress testing and scenario analysis frameworks, partnering with Investment Management and Actuarial teams to evaluate portfolio and funded-status outcomes across a range of market environments.
• Evaluate portfolio vulnerabilities, diversification benefits, liquidity dynamics and cross-asset interactions through a total fund lens.

Research & Innovation

• Drive research and thought leadership in portfolio construction, asset allocation, risk factor modelling, diversification and advanced portfolio analytics.
• Advance analytical capabilities related to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and data-driven investment insights, and assess their implications for portfolios, markets and investment processes.
• Lead innovation in cross-asset correlation, tail-risk analysis, scenario design and forward-looking portfolio assessment methodologies.
• Collaborate with technology partners, external experts and industry peers to strengthen analytical capabilities and investment decision-support frameworks.

Leadership & Influence

• Lead, develop and mentor a high-performing team of portfolio risk and analytics professionals.
• Build trusted partnerships across Investment Management, Finance, Actuarial, Technology, Legal, Human Resources and other key stakeholder groups.
• Translate complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and governance forums.
• Represent HOOPP externally through industry forums, peer collaboration, research initiatives and thought leadership.
• Contribute to the long-term evolution of HOOPP’s Total Portfolio Approach and broader investment risk framework.

What you bring:

• A graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline. A CFA, FRM, MBA or equivalent professional designation is considered an asset.
• 12+ years of experience in institutional investing, portfolio construction, investment strategy, total fund management, multi-asset investing, OCIO, capital markets or investment risk leadership.
• Deep understanding of portfolio construction, asset allocation, investment decision-making and risk management across public and private markets.
• Experience evaluating complex multi-asset portfolios, including alternative investments and derivatives.
• Strong knowledge of total fund investing, stress testing, scenario analysis and quantitative portfolio analytics.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic insights that inform senior-level investment decisions and to exercise sound judgement when constructively challenging established views.
• Proven people leadership experience, including building, coaching and developing high-performing teams.
• Executive presence and exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into actionable investment insights.
• Experience within a pension fund, sovereign wealth fund, endowment, insurance asset manager, OCIO platform or other sophisticated institutional investor is preferred. Canadian or international pension experience is considered an asset.
• Experience with Aladdin Risk, Ortec or comparable portfolio and risk management systems is considered an asset.
• Coding, software development, data science or advanced quantitative research experience is advantageous.

The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
