Front-End Engineer (React / React Native) – Store & Web

As we continue building the best milkman on earth, we’re looking for frontend engineers who want to shape the digital shopping experience used by millions across Europe. We’re looking for people with experience in B2C product companies at scale, where engineering quality, customer impact, and product thinking are essential. You’ll thrive in our international environment, where clear communication and close collaboration across product, design, backend, analytics, and frontend teams are crucial.

This is not a role where you simply receive tickets and implement predefined solutions. You will help shape the problem, challenge assumptions, make technical decisions, and work with others to create the best experience for our customers.

About the role

In this role, in addition to working with React daily you'll be working with our powerful server-driven UI framework that's at the heart of our business's success:

• Powers our entire shopping app and enables rapid iterations
• Drives sophisticated personalization at scale, delivering tailored content to each user
• Empowers our business teams to operate the store autonomously - dozens of operators and analysts make every day real-time updates without any further tech involvement

In this role you can expect to work with a wide range of technologies within the JavaScript ecosystem, across the full stack! Experience with React Native is not required, we’ll get you up to speed with that on the job.

Tricks of the trade

• Build for millions: Work in a small, collaborative team to build and evolve Picnic’s consumer-facing Store and Web experiences across mobile and web.
• Turn problems into products: Translate customer and business needs into clear technical plans, practical frontend solutions, and shipped features.
• Shape decisions together: Collaborate with product, design, backend, analytics, and frontend colleagues while clearly communicating your reasoning and making trade-offs visible.
• Raise the bar: Proactively improve code quality, performance, processes, and team practices beyond your immediate responsibilities.
• Enable Picnic to move faster: Contribute to our server-driven UI and shared frontend architecture, while owning your work from understanding the problem through feedback and iteration.

We’re looking for

• 4+ years of professional software development experience, with strong frontend experience in React, React Native, TypeScript, or a similar JavaScript framework.
• Experience shipping and maintaining customer-facing applications, with a strong focus on testing and quality.
• Product-minded approach: able to turn ambiguous customer or business problems into clear technical plans and thoughtful trade-offs.
• Clear, structured communicator who collaborates effectively with product, design, backend, analytics, and frontend teams.
• Proactive owner who improves things beyond their assigned work, shares their perspective, adapts to new information, and remains eager to learn.
• Genuine motivation to build consumer and e-commerce experiences used by millions, with willingness to work from Picnic’s Amsterdam office-first environment.
