JOB CONTEXT

Damen Song Cam Shipyard (DSCS) is engineering, building, outfitting,  commissioning and delivering ship types of the Damen range. Basic designs and most components are delivered to DSCS by Damen Workboat in Gorinchem. DSCS will complete the detailed design, produce all required production instructions, supplement the remaining components either by their own production or by purchasing / subcontracting and provide project management. 

DSCS consists of four big departments: Engineering, Projects, Operations, and Finance. Manufacturing Engineering department is one department within Operations department and is under supervision of Operations manager. Manufacturing Engineering consists of following sub teams: 

- Manufacturing Engineering 

- Production Support  

Production support is responsible for preparing building strategies, delivering technical solutions on board in case of conflicts and creating technical work instructions for production 

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB 

Creates, maintains and improves building strategies for ship types which are built in DSCS. In co-corporation with other teams to ensure a smooth building process in production and build up a technical library of technical work instructions. Participate in improving processes and quality of output of the production support team.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACTIVITIES 

• Provide initial info of project

- Building strategy 

- Making work instructions, building up work instruction library for the yard 

- Request and review docking support drawing packages 

- Calculating paint areas on vessels 

- Demarcation on spool list 

- To provide engineering information to production and planning (pipe support, floor area, insulation area, …) 

• Support and solving technical issues during building 

- Making modification sheet/sketch (if needed for specific YN)  

- Follow up to provide information for production (DWG package status, procedure, manual…) 

- Solving technical issues related to design of vessel 

• Provide the input to engineering to develop the design/ detail engineering packages 

- Follow up Inform QC to reassign feedback from production relate to SEPI package to PFL engineering DSCS for following up  

• Production template

- Understand about production template 

- Together with Work preparation + Planning team to develop production template for specific ship types

• Instruction project

- Responsible for the creation of work instruction, update and maintaining the project specific work instructions, where the work instructions are part of the ship types 

• Other activities 

- Create new and/or update drawings of yard’s facility and equipment 

- Assist in engineering calculations 

• General regulations 

- Keep the workplace clean and in order  

- Compliance with all company and employment regulations, and safety regulations. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Education 

• Higher education technical 

• Qualification in Shipbuilding Engineering/ Mechanical engineering 

• Technical insight 

• Good written and verbal English 

Experience 

• 1-3 years of experience in technical field
