Junior Mechanic – Fleet Maintenance

Description

TrueNorth Recovery, a leader in private property impound towing, is dedicated to delivering excellence and professionalism in the industry. We value integrity, operational reliability, and are committed to fostering a supportive and rewarding work environment for our team. We're looking for a motivated, hands-on Junior Mechanic who wants to build a career in fleet maintenance. Diesel or hydraulic experience is a plus, but not required — if you have mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and the drive to learn, we'll train you. When our trucks are down, so is our business, and you'll be part of the team that keeps them rolling.

What You'll Do

• Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance on a mixed fleet of tow trucks, including both newer and high-mileage vehicles requiring close attention
• Learn to service and maintain Dodge Ram 4500 chassis vehicles and Jerr-Dan towing systems, including hydraulic components
• Service tow dollies and associated towing equipment
• Perform routine service work such as oil changes, brakes, tires, lights, fluid checks, and inspections
• Help diagnose and repair both diesel and unleaded passenger vehicles under the guidance of our senior mechanic
• Keep the shop and parts room clean and organized, and assist with parts inventory
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using basic MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Partner with drivers and management to minimize vehicle downtime and keep the fleet road-ready

Training & Schedule

• First 90 Days: You'll work the day shift alongside our senior mechanic, learning our fleet, our equipment, and our standards
• After 90 Days: You'll move to the night shift, keeping the fleet serviced and ready while the trucks are in the yard
• Pay Review: Your training pay will be reviewed and increased after 90 days based on your experience and performance

What We Offer

• Competitive Compensation: $15–$30 per hour based on experience, with an increase after your 90-day training period
• Career Advancement Opportunities: We're growing, and we want team members who want to grow with us — from junior mechanic to mechanic, lead technician, or fleet management
• Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance to keep you and your family healthy. We also offer both short- and long-term disability, accident, hospital, and critical illness insurance
• Paid Time Off: Every hour worked earns you additional time off. Take off when you want, however it fits your schedule

Preferred Hiring Consideration

• Military Veterans: Your background in any Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) is highly valued. Additional consideration given to veterans with MOSs such as Army 91B-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, Army 91S-Stryker Systems Maintainer, Army 88M-Motor Transport Operator, Marine 3521-Automotive Organizational Mechanic, Navy CM-Construction Mechanic, Air Force 2T3X1-Vehicle Management
• Law Enforcement: We love first respoders
• Disabled Veterans: We are committed to providing opportunities to disabled veterans
• Military Spouses: Your resilience and dedication make you a perfect fit for our team
• Work Opportunity Tax Credit Targeted Groups: We actively seek diverse candidates

Requirements

What You'll Need

• At least 23 years due to insurance requirements
• Basic mechanical aptitude and some hands-on experience — professional, vocational school, or personal
• Diesel and/or hydraulic experience a plus, but not required; a willingness to learn is essential
• Ability to take direction, follow safety procedures, and work as part of a team
• Willingness to work the night shift after completing the 90-day training period
• Basic computer skills; familiarity with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) a plus
• Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Report background check
