The Safety Officer - Environmental serves as an "internal consultant" on environmental-safety-related matters. Develops and maintains systems and programs to assure a comprehensive Workplace Safety and Environment of Care management program as outlined in the standards found within The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory guidelines regarding environmental safety aspects related to healthcare settings within the State of California. Serves as staff resource to appropriate committees for environmental and occupational safety and to local (appointing unit) and system-wide Safety Committee and Emergency Management Committee. Integrates and coordinates all efforts with other organizational staff resources. Educates staff on safe working practices and safety-related issues. Ensures policies, procedures and activities are in place to comply with regulatory agencies. Assumes the position of Safety Officer and advisor to the Incident Commander during times of disaster and emergent operations. The Environmental Safety Officer also serves as the "coordinator" of the site(s) Safety Management and Hazardous Materials, Waste and Communications Management Programs (HAZMAT/COM).
