Job Description

As a LSS Software Engineering Co-op, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of software used in life-support medical devices and the test tools used to develop and validate those products. Working with experienced engineers, managers, and mentors, you will participate in meaningful projects that provide real-world software development experience in a regulated medical device environment.
 

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain real-time and non-real-time software applications using C++.
• Support development of embedded software running on production hardware platforms.
• Design, develop, and maintain software test tools used to verify product functionality and performance.
• Participate in software design, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to solve technical challenges.
• Gain hands-on experience with anesthesia and respiratory care products, including anesthesia systems and vaporizers.
• Work independently and as part of a team to deliver project objectives.
   

Basic Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Demonstrated programming experience in one or more languages such as C++, Python, or C#.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
• Proven leadership experience through academic, extracurricular, or professional activities.
• Available to work for a minimum of 28 weeks.
• Willingness to relocate to Madison, WI for the duration of the co-op.
   

Desired Skills

• Previous internship, co-op, research, or project experience in software engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience developing software for embedded systems.
• Experience debugging software on real hardware targets.
• Familiarity with software development tools, build environments, and debugging techniques.
• Demonstrated passion for technology and engineering.
• Strong analytical approach to solving complex technical problems.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and community involvement.
