Job Description

A Day In The Life

• Assess patient status on admission to the preop area, operating room, and post-op area, and on a continuing basis. 

• Provide safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner. 

• Coordinate nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and ensure readiness for discharge. 

• Document interventions and patient responses. 

• Ensure provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner. 

• Utilize nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care. 

• Communicate appropriate information regarding patient conditions to surgeons, anesthesia, management, and other staff. 

• Safely carry out physician’s orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. 

• Initiate and participate in patient and family education. 

• Assess learning needs according to the patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn. 

• Display an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care. 

• Maintain competencies to function in RN role within specific areas (e.g., OR circulator). 

• Maintain competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patients. 

• Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards and minimizing exposure to maintain privacy and body temperature. 

• Expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique, and universal precautions. 

• Assess, anticipate, and implement appropriate care throughout the surgical process. 

• Provides safe, quality patient care in the Peri-Operative area (Preop, Recovery, or OR). Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. 

Qualifications

Required:

Currently Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan 

ADN 

Preferred: 

Experience in the Per-operative Area

Schedule: M-F Start times between 6:30-7AM and end times at 5:30 or later. 

Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella. MHC also requires all employees to receive a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year that they are hired and annually thereafter, or receive an approved medical or religious exemption.
