Overview of Department & Mentor

Neuroimmunoloy and cerebrovascular disorders cross overlap with many patient presentation’s and pathologies given the similar presentations that can happen with both disorders including spinal cord infarction and inflammatory disorders such as sarcoidosis and neurosarcodiosis. Acute stroke treatment and treatment of neuroimmunology disorders has evolved greatly over the past few years. Imaging, omic’s and genetics can reveal patients’ clinical trajectory and identify novel therapeutic pathways to develop new stroke and cerebrovascular disease treatments. The goal of this project is to assist in the development of blood biomarkers, MRI, and clinical outcomes database for bioinformatics for neurologic disorders that cross both the neuroimmunology spectrum and cerebrovascular disease. Students will work on projects as part of the Dr. Barreras lab as the primary mentor and with secondary mentor Dr. Simpkins SkRIPT/CREST, which incorporates team science and career development program for trainees with an interest in stroke.
