Volunteer

The Henry Ford has a proud tradition of volunteer service. Our formal Volunteer Program began in 1978 with just 16 volunteers and has continued to grow and evolve alongside the institution. Today, in 2026, 300+ volunteers support more then 25+ departments across The Henry Ford, contributing their time, talents, skills, and passion to help advance our mission and create meaningful experiences for our guests and community.

Volunteers serve in a variety of roles across the organization, from engaging with guests, supporting educational programs, special events, behind-the-scenes departments and assisting with administrative and clerical work. Placements are thoughtfully matched based on organizational needs, individual interests and skills, availability, and the requirements of each volunteer opportunity.
