DOJ Account Director, Growth
Improvix Technologies | Department of Justice | Washington, DC
Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000 base salary
Location: Reston, VA — hybrid
Employment Type: Full-Time
THE MOST VALUABLE THING YOU'LL DO HERE IS TALK US OUT OF A BID
Every small federal contractor has a pipeline that looks impressive in a spreadsheet and converts in the single digits. The cause is almost always the same: nobody with the standing to say no ever says it. Adjacent opportunities get added because they're adjacent. B&P spreads thin across too many pursuits. And eventually the delivery team stops taking proposal requests seriously, because half of them went nowhere.
Improvix Technologies is hiring a DOJ Account Director to own growth across the Department of Justice and its components. You'll identify, qualify, shape, and capture IT services opportunities — and you'll own the qualification bar that keeps the pipeline honest. You report directly to the Chief Growth Officer, with no layer between your recommendation and the bid/no-bid decision.
The timing is specific. ITSS-5's ordering period runs through September 2027 and MEGA 6 is moving toward solicitation, which means the positioning work that determines who competes well on the next generation of DOJ IT vehicles is happening right now. If you know that landscape, you already know what the next eighteen months are worth.
WHY GROWTH LEADERS TAKE THIS ROLE
- A direct line to the decision. You report to the Chief Growth Officer. Your read on a pursuit is usually the decision, not an input to a committee that meets next month.
- Solution architects who'll actually give you time. The difference between a real capture and a compliant proposal is technical engagement during shaping, not after RFP drop. You'll get that time because the people who have it sit two seats away.
- One account, deep. DOJ and its components, properly. Not six agencies covered at arm's length by one person with an impossible travel calendar.
- You shape the strategy, not execute someone else's. The DOJ go-to-market strategy isn't written yet. You write it, and you'll have the executive visibility to get it funded.
- Wins that register. We're a small business with a real delivery record, which means a win here is visible, attributable, and changes the company's trajectory. That's a different feeling than adding a number to a large integrator's quarter.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Pipeline & Qualification
- Identify, qualify, and pursue IT services opportunities across DOJ components — FBI, DEA, ATF, USMS, EOIR, BOP, and OJP among them.
- Own the qualification bar. Decide what we chase, what we watch, and what we decline — and make the no-bid case to leadership when it's the right call.
- Maintain a pipeline that reflects reality: honest probability, honest timing, and a clear articulation of why we'd win each one.
Account Strategy
- Develop and execute account plans aligned to DOJ's strategic initiatives and technology priorities.
- Build the positioning for the next generation of DOJ vehicles, including follow-on competitions and component-level BPAs and IDIQs.
- Identify where our past performance is genuinely differentiating and where we need a teaming partner to be credible.
Relationships
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with DOJ stakeholders, program managers, and contracting officers.
- Develop the teaming relationships — primes, subs, and niche specialists — that make a given pursuit viable.
- Be the person DOJ counterparts call because you've been useful to them before, not only when something is on the street.
Capture & Proposal Strategy
- Lead capture: opportunity shaping, competitive assessment, teaming strategy, price-to-win input, and win themes.
- Collaborate with solution architects and SMEs to develop tailored technical offerings rather than recycled boilerplate.
- Partner with the proposal team so the strategy you shaped survives contact with the compliance matrix.
Market & Budget Intelligence
- Monitor DOJ budgets, forecasts, and procurement activity to inform pipeline development and timing.
- Track the competitive landscape — who holds what, whose incumbency is soft, and where a recompete is genuinely winnable.
- Translate what you learn into something leadership can act on, early enough that acting is still possible.
Presence in the Market
- Represent Improvix at DOJ-focused industry days, conferences, and networking forums.
- Respond to sources sought and RFIs in ways that shape requirements rather than merely answering them.
WHAT YOU BRING
These are the requirements — everything in “Bonus Points” below is genuinely optional. If you meet this list, apply.
- 5+ years in federal business development, including at least 2 years focused on DOJ or law enforcement agencies — or 5+ years working inside DOJ in a senior capacity.
- Deep understanding of DOJ's mission, organizational structure, and acquisition processes.
- Familiarity with DOJ contract vehicles — ITSS-5, MEGA, component-level BPAs and IDIQs, and GSA MAS.
- Demonstrated capture experience: shaping an opportunity, assembling a team, and carrying a pursuit through to submission.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills — with the judgment to know when a relationship is real and when it's just polite.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
- An active DOJ clearance, or the ability to obtain a Public Trust — strongly preferred.
BONUS POINTS
- Existing relationships with DOJ program managers and contracting officers.
- Prior experience as a DOJ contracting officer, COR, or program manager.
- A demonstrated track record of $25M+ individual captures, or $100M+ in annual pipeline ownership.
- Working knowledge of DOJ's IT priorities — digital modernization, cybersecurity, AI initiatives, and data analytics.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or comparable CRM tooling for pipeline management.
- Experience building a small-business account practice from a standing start rather than inheriting a mature one.
WORKING HERE
Improvix Technologies delivers secure, modern, integrated technology solutions that keep the nation's most critical systems running. We're small enough that a good idea reaches a decision-maker in a day, and close enough to the mission that you'll know exactly what your work supports.
What we can and can't put behind a pursuit: we're a small business. B&P is finite and we won't pretend otherwise. What you'll get is fast decisions, real solution architect engagement during shaping, and leadership that will commit properly to a pursuit you've made the case for. What you won't get is an unlimited proposal factory that lets you bid everything and sort it out later. Choosing well matters more here than it would at a large integrator — which is exactly why this role has the authority it does.
On the schedule: hybrid in Washington, DC. In practice the rhythm flexes around where your meetings are, because in this job that's most of the point — you should be in rooms with DOJ counterparts more often than you're at a desk.
On the clearance: an active DOJ clearance makes you immediately more useful, but the ability to obtain a Public Trust is the real floor. If you're strong on the account and the relationships, we'd rather sort out the paperwork than pass on you.
Ready to apply? Send us your résumé. If there's a capture you won that you probably shouldn't have, a bid you killed that saved everyone six weeks and a lot of goodwill, or a relationship you built years before it ever produced a dollar, tell us about it — that's the conversation we want to have.
