Engineering-Process - Tool & Die Maker IV

Job Summary 

We're looking for a Tool Maker to analyze specifications and set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and numerical-control machines. This role fabricates and repairs metalworking injection tools, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.

Shift: 1st shift, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

What You'll Be Doing 

• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. 

• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces for subsequent machining. 

• Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, shapers, and similar equipment. 

• Calculate and set machining controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine-control media. 

• Start and observe machine operations, identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust controls or control media as needed. 

• Verify finished workpieces meet specifications and perform trial runs to confirm machine settings or programmed control data. 

• Fit and assemble parts, then verify assembly dimensions and alignment. 

• Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment; test units to confirm functionality and performance. 

• Develop specifications from general descriptions and create sketches of parts or products to be fabricated. 

• Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and others to resolve machining or assembly issues. 

• Use a hand truck and/or operate a forklift as needed to transfer hazardous materials within the Chromalloy facility. 

What We're Looking For 

• High school diploma or equivalent. 

• One to two years of related experience and/or training. 

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and communicate effectively with groups of customers or employees. 

• Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply basic algebra and geometry. 

• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written, oral, or diagram instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

• Training in loading, labeling, transferring, and moving hazardous materials in accordance with RCRA regulations. 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements 

• Regularly stand, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. 

• Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. 

• Noise level is usually moderate.
