Position Summary

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a small-to-medium sized team of Mechanical Engineers by assigning responsibilities and coordinating daily engineering activities.
• Provide technical direction and mentoring to engineers and technicians in the design, development, analysis, testing, and production support of mechanical systems and components.
• Manage engineering projects and technical work packages throughout the product lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, production, and sustainment.
• Establish priorities and allocate engineering resources to meet program schedules, customer requirements, and business objectives.
• Monitor team performance, workload, project status, and technical deliverables to ensure commitments are met.
• Develop engineering solutions to complex technical problems while considering cost, schedule, quality, manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, specifications, analyses, test plans, and technical reports as appropriate.
• Support prototype development, qualification testing, failure investigations, and product improvement activities.
• Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective action for design, manufacturing, supplier, and field issues.
• Support staffing plans, resource projections, recruiting, and development of the Mechanical Engineering organization.
• Provide performance feedback, coaching, and development opportunities for engineering personnel.
• Participate in hiring, promotion, and disciplinary action recommendations in accordance with company policies.
• Communicate technical and program status to senior management and participate in design reviews, program reviews, and customer meetings.
• Support supplier and customer engagements, including occasional travel for testing, supplier meetings, and program activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 9+ years of relevant engineering experience within a complex engineering environment.
• 3+ years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience, including responsibility for assigning work, mentoring engineers, or leading technical teams.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design, engineering analysis, manufacturing processes, and product development.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to address complex technical and organizational issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; security clearances are granted to U.S. Citizens.
• Familiarity with configuration management and engineering change processes.
• Ability to travel up to 15% for testing, supplier meetings, customer meetings, and other business needs.

Desired Skills

• Experience with SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or other 3D CAD systems.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, welding, composites, and additive manufacturing.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA).
• Experience with PFMEA, work instructions, manufacturing documentation, and production support.
• Experience with prototype development and environmental or qualification testing.
• Experience supporting DoD or U.S. Navy programs.
• Experience developing engineering staffing plans, resource requirements, and project schedules.
