Unit Clerk-ED Tech (C.N.A., MA, EMT-B) - Part Time Nights

Job Summary:

This role will serve as the Unit Clerk one shift a week and as the ED tech one day a week. Please see educational requirements for more information. The Unit Clerk provides administrative and clerical support to the nursing unit to help ensure efficient patient care. This role serves as the department’s communication hub by coordinating physician, staff, and interdepartmental communication. The ED tech assists providers and nurses in providing efficient, high-quality emergency care to patients in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ED tech performs clinical support duties, patient care activites while providing patient comfort, safety, and timely flow through the emergency department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
• Greet families, patients, visitors, and other staff professionally.
• Assist nurses and providers with patient care procedures and treatments.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with nursing staff, support service departments, and interdisciplinary teams, including during high stress situations.
• Contacts consultants, laboratory, radiology, respiratory, Environmental services, and other departments as requested.
• Perform EKG’s, specimen collection, point-of-care testing as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information.
• Coordinates effectively with clinical staff to ensure timely patient flow and service delivery.
• Provides clear directions and answers questions to help patients navigate the facility with ease.
• Keeps and maintians accurate record of the ED Central Log Book.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Answers and directs phone calls and patient call lights.
• Prepare treatment rooms and mainatian stocked supplies and equipment.
• Maintain accurate tracking of patients throughout ED.
• Maintains accurate patient records.
• Help coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers by preparing paperwork and assisting with phone calls.
• Assist with locating supplies, forms, equipment, and other resources.
• Obtain outside medical records and in-house EMR medical records as needed.
• Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
• Support infection control and patient safety initiatives.
• Assists with document scanning and record keeping.
• Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of equipment, work, and storage areas.
• Is knowledgeable of general hospital and unit specific policies and procedures.
• Support trauma, cardiac, and emergency resonse situations.
• Accurately registers patients, verifies demographics, and ensures all required information is collected and entered in the EHR.
• Confirms insurance eligibility, obtains necessary authorizations, and explains financial responsibilities in a clear and compassionate manner.
• Collects co-pays, deductibles, and other payments while maintaining sensitivity to patient circumstances.
• Weekends and holidays required.

• Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follows protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
• Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.
• Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Diploma
• Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance processes, and electronic health records is a plus.
• Required proficiency in general clerical office duties, i.e., computer keyboarding, average typing skills, and switchboard console.
• Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English
• CNA/Tech experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
