Jaguars Running Coach

POSITION SUMMARY

The Jaguars Coach will teach physically track and field in a friendly, encouraging, energetic and knowledgeable manner in accordance with the YMCA mission and values. The Jaguars coach will also be responsible for completing administrative tasks related to the team as assigned. The Jaguars Coach contributes to a positive environment by illustrating pride in their work, enthusiasm and cooperation in accordance with the YMCA’s mission and values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Develops curriculum for practices for Jaguar practices including: High jump, discus throw, javelin, cross country and other specific track & field events.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on Jaguars and schedules through weekly communications and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
• Secures facilities to hold track & field and cross country events.

• Submits press releases to local paper for start of practice season and Jaguar events
• Qualifies all volunteers with HR.
• Maintain Jaguars as a USA Track and Field Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 18 years of age.
• Have knowledge and experience in all areas of track & field.
• Within one year, become a Level 1 USA Track & Field Certified Coach.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification
• Must be able to demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
