Quality Control Manager

Description

The Quality Control Manager leads the Quality Control department, ensuring that materials and finished products meet design specifications and established quality standards. The role oversees product integrity, supports Quality Assurance audits, analyzes quality data, and collaborates with management to resolve issues that affect quality, production, and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Key responsibilities include the following; additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Department Leadership and Staffing

• Direct all Quality Control department operations and oversee the Assistant QC Manager, Quality Control Engineers, Quality Control Supervisors, and Quality Inspectors.
• Coordinate recruitment and hiring for Quality Control positions.
• Train and develop Quality Control inspectors, supervisors, and engineers.
• Champion a strong culture of quality throughout the plant.

Quality Systems and Compliance

• Ensure production practices comply with the company’s Quality System Manual (QSM).
• Maintain working knowledge of PCI MNL 116 and 117, as well as applicable ACI and ASTM standards.
• Interpret job specifications and verify compliance throughout production.
• Sustain improvements resulting from PCI audits.
• Oversee inspection of internal and external steel hardware.

Process and Technical Improvement

• Implement and sustain technologies and processes that improve department performance.
• Design, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot new and existing concrete mixtures.
• Coordinate advanced testing of concrete and concrete materials as required.

Quality Reporting

• Report companywide quality performance to senior management, including costs; plant, field, and engineering quality reports and audits; and relevant processes and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills.
• Strong mathematical aptitude.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents and technical publications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Sound judgment, effective decision-making, and a strong work ethic.
• Knowledge of concrete mix design and ACI mix qualification procedures. 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field preferred.
• At least five years of leadership experience in the industry.
• Concrete-related experience preferred.
• ACI Level I and PCI Levels I, II, and III certifications required.
• Strong leadership and team-collaboration skills.
• Material testing and laboratory experience preferred.
• Understanding of general manufacturing and engineering principles.

Schedule, Physical, and Work Environment Requirements

Schedule

• Ability to begin work at 3:00 a.m.
• Ability to work more than 40 hours per week; occasional weekend work may be required.

Physical Demands

• Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb onto and down from equipment.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and walk long distances in an industrial setting.

Work Environment

• Ability to work outdoors in conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, and dust.
