The opportunity

Nexus is seeking a Clinical Informatics Analyst – Behavioral Health to improve the electronic health record systems and workflows that support our clinical teams. Reporting to the Clinical Applications Manager, you will serve as a behavioral health subject matter expert for MEDITECH clinical applications, with a particular focus on MEDITECH Expanse implementation and optimization.

This role is suited to a clinician who understands behavioral health care and can translate clinical, operational, and regulatory needs into effective system configuration. You will work with frontline users, facility leaders, application analysts, and vendors to make documentation more useful, strengthen patient safety, and support coordinated care across behavioral health, medical, nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and ancillary services.

What you’ll do

Clinical applications and workflow design

• Configure, test, implement, maintain, and optimize assigned MEDITECH applications and behavioral health content.

• Gather requirements from clinicians and operational leaders, evaluate current workflows, and translate their needs into system design and configuration.

• Serve as a primary resource for application enhancements, troubleshooting, and issue resolution within assigned modules.

• Maintain clinical dictionaries, master files, documentation templates, and other application content to support data integrity and consistent practices across facilities.

• Evaluate system usability and adoption, identify gaps between intended clinical practice and system behavior, and recommend improvements.

Behavioral health documentation

• Build and maintain workflows for psychiatric and behavioral assessments, suicide risk and safety assessments, individualized treatment plans, therapy documentation, observation and precautions, and discharge planning.

• Support documentation for restraint and seclusion, including required orders, assessments, monitoring, and regulatory elements.

• Help ensure workflows reflect person-centered, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate care for the populations Nexus serves.

• Support order sets, order management, medication administration workflows, clinical decision support, and alerts in collaboration with other application teams.

Implementation, testing, and support

• Participate in discovery sessions, future-state design, system build, interface testing, data validation, user acceptance testing, implementation, and go-live support.

• Review application updates and upgrades, assess their clinical impact, develop test scenarios, document defects, and coordinate resolution.

• Provide advanced application support and investigate issues through root cause analysis.

• Maintain clear records of requirements, build decisions, workflow diagrams, test results, changes, and open issues.

• Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and provide onsite support during implementations, upgrades, and critical system events.

Education, privacy, and compliance

• Develop training materials and job aids, explain system changes, and support clinicians as they adopt new workflows.

• Partner with clinical, compliance, legal, and health information management teams on privacy, consent, guardianship, adolescent confidentiality, and appropriate access to patient information.

• Configure documentation and workflows that support applicable CMS, Joint Commission, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, state, and organizational requirements.

• Support quality improvement, patient safety, survey readiness, and corrective action initiatives through thoughtful system design and reliable data capture.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, counseling, psychology, applied behavior analysis, health informatics, health information management, or a closely related field.

• Active, unrestricted licensure or certification in good standing as one of the following: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). RNs must hold a Texas license or a multistate license recognized in Texas.

• Experience with clinical informatics, EHR applications, healthcare systems, or related technology work.

• Experience gathering requirements, analyzing clinical workflows, supporting testing, and translating clinical needs into system solutions.

• Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred qualifications

• At least two years of behavioral health clinical experience, particularly in pediatric or adolescent care, inpatient psychiatric services, neurobehavioral care, residential treatment, rehabilitation, or a specialty hospital setting.

• MEDITECH Client Server or Expanse implementation, configuration, optimization, or support experience.

• Experience with clinical documentation, treatment planning, observation levels, restraint and seclusion requirements, and care coordination.

• Experience with EHR implementations, upgrades, application support, end-user education, and change management.

• Familiarity with MEDITECH clinical modules such as PCS, OE/OM, PCM/PWM, EMR, E-Chart, and Patient Portal.

• A related master’s degree, relevant clinical or informatics certification, or SQL and reporting experience.

Location and schedule

This is a full-time, onsite position at the Nexus Health Systems corporate office in Houston, Texas. Travel to Nexus facilities in Texas and Georgia is required as needed. The position also participates in an after-hours on-call support rotation.
