Fleet Mechanic

Job Type: Full-Time 

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour, depending on experience 

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 6:00am – 2:30pm  

Lawson Drayage is looking for an experienced Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of commercial trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment. This is a hands-on position responsible for preventive maintenance, diagnostics, inspections, and repairs to help keep our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for operation. 

What We're Looking For: An experienced diesel and heavy-equipment mechanic who is dependable, mechanically skilled, and confident diagnosing and repairing a variety of truck and equipment systems. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, take ownership of their work, and be part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Perform maintenance and repairs on Class 1–9 trucks and trailers and Class IV & V forklifts. 
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brake systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. 
• Diagnose and repair fuel and emissions systems, steering, suspension, transmissions, and air conditioning systems. 
• Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and scheduled services. 
• Conduct 90-day BIT inspections on trucks and trailers and complete required documentation. 
• Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electrical issues. 
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and determine appropriate repairs. 
• Complete minor and major mechanical repairs as needed. 
• Perform repairs according to applicable OEM specifications. 
• Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records. 
• Identify unsafe or damaged equipment and communicate needed repairs. 
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. 
• Follow company safety procedures and proper equipment-handling practices. 
• Attend paid training as required. 
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

• Previous fleet, heavy-duty diesel, or heavy-equipment mechanic experience. 
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and mechanical systems. 
• Experience diagnosing and repairing air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems. 
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and both minor and major repairs. 
• Experience using mechanical diagnostic tools and software. 
• Ability to troubleshoot and identify mechanical and electrical problems. 
• Valid driver's license. 
• Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate service records. 
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills. 
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
• Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of the team. 
• Must have own tools. 
• Willingness to attend required training. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience maintaining and repairing commercial trucks and trailers. 
• Experience maintaining and repairing Class IV & V forklifts. 
• Experience performing BIT inspections. 
• Familiarity with OEM repair procedures and specifications. 
• Experience working with a commercial fleet or similar heavy-equipment operation. 

Compensation & Benefits 

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour, depending on experience
