Content and Editorial Strategist

JOB SUMMARY

The Content and Editorial Strategist serves as a senior content leader responsible for developing, writing, and optimizing strategic content initiatives that support Vanguard Charitable's business growth objectives. This role creates high-impact content across a variety of formats and channels, including sales enablement materials, event collateral, thought leadership, email campaigns, social and digital content, and creative marketing campaigns.

Working closely with stakeholders across Marketing, Events, Business Development, Client Experience, and Product, the Content and Editorial Strategist identifies content opportunities, develops proactive content plans, and translates complex philanthropic and financial concepts into compelling narratives for priority audiences. This role serves as a trusted marketing partner, develops deep subject matter expertise in Vanguard Charitable's offerings and audiences, and uses performance data and market insights to continuously improve content effectiveness and business outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Strategic Content Development & Editorial Leadership (35%)
   Develops and executes strategic content initiatives that support business growth, advisor engagement, donor acquisition, donor retention, and key business priorities. Creates a high volume of complex, high-priority content across multiple channels and formats, including thought leadership, sales enablement materials, event collateral, web content, email campaigns, presentations, executive communications, social, and paid ad campaigns. Translates complex financial, philanthropic, and industry concepts into compelling, audience-focused content that drives engagement and action. Ensures editorial excellence through rigorous writing, editing, proofreading, and content review processes while maintaining consistent brand voice and messaging standards.

• Sales Enablement, Event Marketing & Strategic Growth Initiatives (25%)
   Serves as the primary content partner for assigned business priorities, strategic growth initiatives, and event marketing efforts. Develops advisor-facing and donor-facing materials, presentation content, event support assets, campaign messaging, and sales enablement resources that support organizational growth objectives. Partners with stakeholders to identify content gaps, prioritize opportunities, and create scalable content solutions that advance strategic initiatives. Proactively develops content recommendations and resources that support future business needs rather than solely responding to stakeholder requests.

• Thought Leadership, PR Support & Subject Matter Development (15%)
   Develops thought leadership content that strengthens Vanguard Charitable's market presence and supports brand positioning. Works closely with internal subject matter experts and external partners to identify and develop thought leadership opportunities. Serves as the primary marketing liaison for assigned external content partners, agencies, and freelancers. Develops and maintains deep subject matter expertise in philanthropy, donor-advised funds, charitable planning, wealth-related topics, and priority audience segments.

• Content Performance Optimization & Strategic Planning (15%)
   Evaluates content and campaign performance using analytics, stakeholder feedback, audience insights, and market trends. Measures content effectiveness against established objectives and identifies opportunities to improve engagement, conversion, and business outcomes. Continuously refines messaging, content strategies, campaign approaches, and audience targeting based on performance insights. Uses data and research to inform recommendations and guide future content development efforts. Identifies emerging trends, audience needs, and market opportunities that inform strategic content planning and support organizational objectives.

• Cross-Functional Partnership, Project Management & Operational Excellence (10%)
   Represents Marketing in cross-functional initiatives and serves as a trusted content advisor to business stakeholders. Partners with teams across the organization to define project scope, establish priorities, manage timelines, and ensure high-quality execution. Manages multiple concurrent projects from concept through implementation while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting deadlines. Coordinates the work of freelancers, agencies, and external partners as needed to support content initiatives and business objectives.
   
   

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Training

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, Business, or a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple content formats and audiences.
• Knowledge of content strategy, editorial processes, audience engagement principles, and multi-channel marketing.
• Ability to translate complex financial, philanthropic, and business concepts into clear, compelling communications.
• Skilled in developing strategic messaging and content plans aligned to business objectives.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate content performance, interpret data, and apply insights to improve results.
• Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Ability to build credibility with business partners and represent Marketing effectively in cross-functional environments.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and proactively identify opportunities and solutions.
• Knowledge of AEO, SEO, personalization, and content optimization best practices.
• Experience collaborating with external agencies, freelancers, and vendors preferred.
• Knowledge of donor-advised funds, financial services, wealth management, or philanthropy preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in content strategy, content marketing, editorial, communications, or related disciplines.
• Experience developing content that supports business growth, lead generation, sales enablement, or strategic marketing initiatives required.
• Experience working within financial services, wealth management, asset management, philanthropic services, nonprofit fundraising, professional services, or a related industry strongly preferred.
• Experience developing content for affluent, high-net-worth, advisor, or executive audiences preferred
