Part Time Custodian

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 400+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the Part-Time Custodian role in our Pella, Iowa facility.

About the Role:

The Part Time Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment within our manufacturing facility. This position ensures that all workspaces, common areas, and restrooms are regularly cleaned and sanitized to meet health and safety standards. The custodian supports the overall operational efficiency by promptly addressing cleaning needs and assisting with minor maintenance tasks. This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently during assigned shifts. Ultimately, the custodian contributes to creating a professional and welcoming atmosphere that supports employee productivity and workplace safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred but not required.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals properly.
• Capability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of equipment operation such as floor scrubbers or buffers.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, or weekends.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal throughout the facility.
• Sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas to maintain hygiene standards.
• Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in designated areas.
• Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel promptly.
• Assist with setup and cleanup for company events or special projects as needed.

Skills:

The required skills enable the custodian to efficiently perform cleaning and maintenance duties while adhering to safety guidelines, ensuring a hazard-free environment. Attention to detail is critical for identifying areas that require cleaning or repair, which helps maintain high facility standards. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are essential for handling equipment and performing repetitive tasks throughout the shift. Preferred skills such as familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment and safety regulations enhance the custodian's ability to work effectively in a manufacturing setting. Communication skills facilitate clear reporting of issues and collaboration with other staff to support overall facility operations.
