Internal Communications Manager

The Internal Communications Manager ensures Southeast’s staff, across all 14 campuses and every ministry, operates with shared clarity, aligned priorities, and a common sense of what matters most. This role eliminates “I didn’t know” moments, builds staff engagement, and makes internal messaging as strategic and well-crafted as external communications.

Why Southeast? Southeast Christian Church is a dynamic, growing church where staff are encouraged to lead boldly, care deeply, and live authentically.

What you will be doing:

Internal Message Architecture

• Own the internal communication calendar, what staff need to know, when they need to know it.
• Ensure leadership decisions, strategic priorities, and major initiatives are communicated clearly across all 14 campuses.
• Eliminate conflicting or duplicate internal messaging; build one source of truth channels.
• Partner with executive leadership on message rollout strategy for major changes.

Channel Ownership & Execution

• Own the staff-facing channels: internal email, staff meetings, Slack/Teams, staff portal.
• Write and edit internal announcements, leadership updates, and change communications.
• Partner with HR on onboarding, staff handbook, and cultural communications.
• Track open rates and engagement on internal channels; iterate on what reaches staff.

Staff Culture & Alignment

• Build the internal communication cadence that keeps staff connected, informed, and aligned.
• Partner with ministry leaders to surface and amplify staff wins across the network.
• Support the Communications Director in annual culture and vision communications.
• Lead and develop the Internal Communications Coordinator.

How You Operate:

Self-Execution Mindset

You naturally take ownership and run with projects. You are comfortable making decisions and solving problems independently. You research, think critically, and present solutions, not questions, to leadership.

Adaptive & Resilient

You thrive in dynamic ministry environments where priorities shift. You see change as an opportunity for improvement and adapt quickly without losing momentum or requiring extensive recalibration.

Proactive Creator

You bring finished work and compelling ideas to the table. You are energized by developing new approaches and experimenting with creative solutions. You prefer taking initiative over waiting for direction.

Excellence-Driven

You have high standards for your work and are committed to continuous improvement. You take pride in delivering professional-quality content that reflects well on the ministry.

What we are looking for:

• 5–7+ years in internal communications, employee engagement, or corporate communications.
• Proven experience managing staff communications across a multi-site or distributed workforce.
• Exceptional writing and editorial judgment; can translate executive-speak into clear staff language.
• Advanced AI fluency; uses AI for drafting, editing, and personalizing internal communications at scale.
• Strong project management and relationship skills; comfortable working with executive leadership.
• Experience managing at least one direct report.
• Deep alignment with Southeast’s mission and a heart for equipping staff to serve well.

This Role Is Not Right For You If You…

• Find internal communications less interesting than external/marketing work.• Default to longer messaging when shorter would land better.
• Avoid hard cross-departmental conversations.
• Prefer announcing changes after they happen rather than partnering on rollout strategy.
• Need to write everything yourself instead of equipping leaders to communicate well.
• View staff as an audience to inform rather than people to align.

Our Requirements:

• Engaged member of Southeast Christian Church, or willing to become one.
• Models staff values: Honor, Care, Accountability, Grit, Authenticity, Humility, and Fun.
• Lives out staff expectations of groups, inviting, serving, worship, and giving.
