Who You Are

The ideal Head Miller is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise in flour milling operations. You are passionate about food safety, quality, employee development, and continuous improvement. You excel at solving problems, building strong teams, and ensuring mill performance consistently meets or exceeds expectations.

What You'll Do

As the Head Miller, you will lead the safe and efficient operation of the milling department while training, coaching, and developing mill staff to achieve maximum milling efficiencies and exceptional flour quality. You will be responsible for maintaining high production standards while supporting Mennel’s commitment to food safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading daily milling operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production
• Ensuring compliance with GMPs, HACCP, FSMA, GFSI, BRC, sanitation, and food safety requirements while maintaining an audit-ready facility
• Training, coaching, and developing milling employees while fostering a strong safety culture
• Ensuring all mill personnel follow corporate EHS policies, procedures, and programs
• Driving unscheduled mill downtime toward zero through effective equipment planning and inventory management
• Partnering with Maintenance to execute preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
• Continuously improving mill yield, extraction rates, capacity utilization, and overall operational performance
• Establishing clear expectations, accountability, and performance goals for department employees
• Maintaining ownership of finished flour quality and ensuring products consistently meet customer and company specifications
• Collaborating with Quality, Maintenance, Operations, and other departments to drive consistency and continuous improvement
• Promoting teamwork, communication, and problem-solving throughout the organization
• Supporting Mennel’s Mission, Motto, and Food Safety & Quality Statement
• Performing other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Milling Science, Food Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a flour milling environment preferred
• PCQI Certification required
• Ability to pass a respirator fit test and perform duties while wearing a respirator
• Strong leadership, team development, and coaching skills
• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business software
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
