Designer

The Royal Group (TRG) currently has a position open for a Designer in Sidney, Ohio. The Designer is responsible for creating designs to meet customer needs and final masters for production.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

• Create designs based on customer needs and production capabilities
• Interpret and work with specifications and drawings per customer specifications
• Knowledge of various applications in automotive (returnable) packaging
• Create samples of designs and coordinate customer approval
• Knowledge of various production equipment limitations
• Work with sales group in coordinating and determining feasibility for new projects
• Create final, accurate, thorough factory masters for tooling layout and production departments
• Coordinate new item approval with design, spec, tooling and production departments
• Ability to use ArtiosCAD and SolidWorks software
• Knowledge of and comfort using Windows and MS Office
• Accompany sales representative on occasion to present ideas for new projects
• Implement, maintain and support all company policies and procedures, including safety programs and good housekeeping
• Knowledge of FOCUS software
• Working knowledge of general computer operations, can help troubleshoot
• Knowledge of available converting board and material characteristics
• Willingness and ability to bring new, innovative ideas to the table
• Availability to work overtime as the job requires
• Knowledge of how costing/routing/efficiencies can have an effect on approved final designs

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

• High school graduate or equivalent with related college education or heavy college coursework in the field of computers, CAD/drafting or applicable work experience
• Preferred that employees have prior work experience in the corrugated industry or other 2-4 years’ work experience and knowledge of corrugated production and converting machinery
• General knowledge of corrugated production and converting machinery
• May be required to maintain a current Forklift Operator License

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate; ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry; ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Excellent communication skills with customers and employees; ability to lead meetings competently and respond to questions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as sales reports, operating instructions, and training and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports, emails and correspondence clearly and effectively.

REASONABLE ABILITY:

• Ability to apply proper understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to solve a variety of problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information or standardization exists.
