$13–$17/hr | Part-Time | 2nd Shift | Monday–Friday & Every Other Weekend

Do you love creating great food and take pride in serving people who count on you? Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount is looking for a dependable Cook to join our dining team, preparing meals our residents look forward to every day, including menus tailored to specialized senior diets.

What You Bring

• 1–2 years of experience in high-volume food preparation, batch cooking, or short-order cooking
• Assisted living, long-term care, healthcare, or institutional dining experience strongly preferred
• Ability to prepare and follow menus for specialized diets (low-sodium, diabetic, mechanical soft, pureed, renal, and allergen-restricted)
• Strong knowledge of food safety, safe temperatures, cross-contamination prevention, and kitchen sanitation
• ServSafe certification preferred (or required within 30 days of hire)
• Skill in following standardized recipes and daily production sheets to keep quality consistent and waste low
• Comfort operating commercial kitchen equipment such as convection ovens, steamers, slicers, food processors, fryers, and dishwashers
• Excellent time management, clear communication, and a patient, resident-centered approach to individual food preferences

The primary responsibility of the Cook is to prepare food of the highest quality and taste for residents and guests of the Community ensuring that the food presentation enhances the dining experience of the residents and guests.

Areas of Responsibility

• Prepare delicious and attractive food that is colorful and tastefully presented making each meal service an exceptional occasion.
• Supervise the kitchen under the direction of the Dining Services Director (DSD) and Chef/Lead Cook.
• Prepare high quality meals consistent with local customs and tastes. Consistently adhere to the standard recipes, the budgeted costs and Company policies. 
• Supervise and/or assist in the proper washing of all dishes, cookware, flatware, and utensils. Properly maintain all kitchen equipment. Monitor water temperatures and/or chemical compounds as appropriate to ensure the prevention of foodborne illness and the spread of communicable disease.
• Approach residents and associates in a friendly, service-oriented manner.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be flexible/adaptable, pay attention to detail, and have a sense of teamwork.
• Must possess good time management skills and a keen awareness of safety. 
• Must possess current manager’s level food handler permit.
• Must have positive Criminal Background Screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year related cooking experience or equivalent preferred.
• Some software and computer skills preferred.
