General Function
The Detroit SWIMS Entry Level Swim Instructor shadows and assists with instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
-
At minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
-
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen from Red Cross
-
Obtains YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent at first certification course offered by YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit after hire.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
-
Shadows and prepares swimming lessions according the YMCA guidelines

Builds authentic relationships with students and parents

Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate

Maintains records as required and attends staff meetings and trainings

Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
Abilities & Skills
-
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.

Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
