Build, Repair, and Improve Critical Manufacturing Tooling

Twin City Die Castings is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Repair Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role is ideal for a skilled toolmaker or die repair professional who enjoys troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex tooling in a fast-paced production environment.

We are looking for someone with hands-on tooling and die repair experience, strong machining capabilities, and the ability to work independently to diagnose and resolve tooling issues. A 2-year Tool & Die, Toolmaking, Machine Tool Technology, or related technical degree is highly preferred. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical die cast tooling that directly impacts production performance, quality, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

As a Tool & Die Repair Technician, you will:

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and modify die cast tooling, trim dies, fixtures, and related equipment.
• Study blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD prints, sketches, and specifications to determine repair methods and tooling requirements.
• Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and related toolroom equipment.
• Manufacture, repair, and fit tooling components such as cores, slides, ejector pins, inserts, and other close-tolerance parts.
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, and dial indicators.
• Inspect tooling for wear, damage, and performance issues while recommending improvements to increase tool life and efficiency.
• Perform fitting, grinding, polishing, shimming, and finishing operations to restore tooling to specification.
• Conduct test runs and make adjustments to ensure tooling performs correctly in production.
• Support tooling maintenance activities including die preparation, cleaning, gate changes, water-line repairs, and tooling disassembly/reassembly.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve tooling performance.
• Safely operate overhead lifting devices, hoists, and other material handling equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in tool and die repair, toolmaking, mold repair, die cast tooling, or precision machining.
• Strong understanding of machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, fitting, and assembly.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
• Experience using precision measurement equipment and machinist hand tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot tooling issues and identify root causes of failures.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate Degree (2-year) in Tool & Die Technology, Toolmaking, Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
• Experience supporting die casting, metalworking, or other close-tolerance manufacturing operations.
• Knowledge of CNC machining equipment and machine setup.
• Experience with EDM equipment.
• Toolroom or tooling maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

Compensation

$30.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
