Job Description

Summary:

The Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) IT Manager provides operational leadership and day-to-day oversight of technology services supporting HCC’s administrative, clinical, research, educational, and event activities. The position supervises HCC IT Coordinator staff and works closely with the IT Director, MUSC Information Solutions, vendors, and HCC leadership to ensure that technology needs are addressed efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with institutional standards.

The IT Manager is responsible for coordinating the delivery of technology support across HCC, including desktop and mobile computing, hardware and software deployment, technology procurement, equipment inventory and lifecycle management, office relocations, meeting and event technology, and end-user support and training. The position serves as a key point of coordination between HCC and enterprise IT resources, helping translate HCC’s operational needs into effective technology solutions.

A significant component of the position is supporting the technology needs of high-profile Cancer Center activities, including National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) site visits, External Scientific Advisory Board (ESAB) meetings, peer review activities, symposiums, retreats, leadership meetings, and other internal and external events. The IT Manager coordinates technology planning, equipment, staffing, setup, troubleshooting, and on-site support to ensure successful execution of these activities.

The position also supports IT governance, compliance, and strategic planning by coordinating security and Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) requests, maintaining required technology documentation and inventories, implementing IT policies and procedures, and ensuring HCC technology operations remain consistent with MUSC standards and applicable security and compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, service-oriented technology professional with strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills. The candidate should be comfortable supervising staff, working with faculty and senior leadership, coordinating multiple priorities, managing vendors and enterprise partners, and providing hands-on technical support when needed. Experience managing technology operations in a complex healthcare, research, academic, or similarly regulated environment is highly desirable.

This position is an operational leader for HCC technology services, balancing staff supervision, customer service, technical problem resolution, event support, technology planning, and compliance to ensure that technology effectively supports the Cancer Center’s mission.
