Assistant Supervisor / Clinical Lab Technologist 1, Virology & Molecular Pathology

The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Supervisor / TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist 1, Virology & Molecular Pathology. The successful candidate will:

• Maintain compliance with departmental, hospital and regulatory requirements.
• Function as Assistant Supervisor responsible for the operation of a laboratory.
• Oversee day to day laboratory operations, review quality control, performance improvement activities.
• Performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations and any other tests or procedures conducted by the virology and molecular labs. 
• Demonstrate good knowledge of quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting on virology and molecular instruments. 
• Assure timely performance of laboratory testing procedures.
• Train personnel in technical methodologist and interpretation of result.
• Record and archive operation test and QC results.
• Maintain inventory and statistics.
• Schedule and assign staff to specific job functions.
• Assist in coordinating administrative operations for the laboratories.
• Demonstrate flexibility and perform other job-related tasks as needed/required, as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description. 

Required Qualifications

• New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
• Bachelor of Science Degree and 6-years of experience; including 2-years of lead tech or supervisory administrative experience.
• ASCP certification or equivalent.
• Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5-years of supervisory experience in microbiology laboratories.
